Recommended Vaccination Schedule

Wondering what vaccines your pet needs? Look no further! Here is a breakdown of everything we recommend here at Wade Hampton Vet Clinic.

Dog

Recommended Vaccine Schedule for Puppies (from 6 weeks to 1 year)

  • Distemper (DAPP): 3 or 4 Boosters given 3-4 weeks apart until 16 weeks of age

    (Puppies older than 4 months only need 2 DAPP boosters given 3-4 weeks apart)

  • Kennel Cough (Bordetella): 2 Boosters given 3-4 weeks apart

  • Rabies (1 year): Given at 12 weeks of age or older

    (The state of SC requires the Rabies vaccine be current for dogs and cats)

  • Be sure to keep your puppy current on heartworm preventative

    We carry heartworm preventative for every budget – 1 month of prevention may even be less then $8!

Recommended Vaccine Schedule for Adult Dogs (1 year and older)

  • Distemper (DAPP): 1 Booster given annually

    (If you decide to get a 3 year Rabies vaccine for your dog, your DAPP will also be good for 3 years)

  • Kennel Cough (Bordetella): 1 Booster given annually for dogs at high risk

    (High Risk dogs include those who may use boarding kennels, grooming facilities, dog parks, or dog shows)

  • Rabies (1 year): 1 Booster given annually

    (The state of SC requires the Rabies vaccine be current for dogs and cats)

  • Rabies (3 year): 1 Booster given every 3 years See Note Below

    The 3-year Rabies vaccine is FDA approved to last for 3 years. It can only be given if your dog has received at least 2 Rabies vaccines in its lifetime

  • Be sure to keep your dog current on heartworm preventative

    We carry heartworm preventative for every budget – 1 month of prevention may be as little as $8.

    Heartworm preventative cannot be prescribed without proof of a current heartworm test.

Cat

Recommended Vaccine Schedule for Kittens (From 6 weeks to 1 year)

  • Feline Distemper (FRCP): 3 or 4 Boosters given 3-4 weeks apart until 16 weeks of age

    (Kittens older than 4 months only need 2 FRCP Boosters given 3-4 weeks apart)

  • Leukemia: 2 Boosters given 3-4 weeks apart
  • PUREVAX Rabies (1 year): Given at 12 weeks of age or older

    (The state of SC requires the Rabies vaccine be current for dogs and cats)

  • Cats can get heartworm too! Be sure to keep your kitten current on heartworm preventative.

    We carry heartworm preventatives for kittens, both chewable and topical – 1 month of prevention may be as little as $7.

Recommended Vaccine Schedule for Adult Cats (1 year and older)

  • Feline Distemper (FRCP): 1 Booster given annually

    (If you decide to get a 3 year Rabies vaccine for your cat, your FRCP will also be good for 3 years)

  • Leukemia: 1 Booster given annually for cats at high risk

    (High Risk cats include those who may come into contact with other unknown cats, especially outdoor cats)
